Rangers player ratings vs Kilmarnock – Goldson scores late to secure the win

connor goldson

Rangers secured all three points earlier today after a late 2-1 win against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Scott Arfield gave the Gers an early lead after the away side started brightly, but the goal was nullified by Stephen O’Donnell in the second-half as Rangers took their foot off the gas.

However, Connor Goldson’s header emerged as the difference between the two sides late on as he scored in injury time.

Steven Gerrard’s men might have clinched a win, but it was a far from convincing performance.

Rangers Player Ratings vs Kilmarnock

Wes Foderingham 6/10

The custodian could have done well to prevent O’Donnell from finding the back of the net. He was hardly tested in the first half, but was decent between the sticks after the break.

James Tavernier 6/10

Tavernier left a lot to be desired down the right as he couldn’t really impose himself while going forward. However, he did well defensively.

Connor Goldson 8/10

The central defender took time to settle in, and he needs to be more resilient at the back. Nonetheless, Goldson bagged the important goal which earned his side all three points.

Niko Katic 7/10

Katic was far from convincing and made some errors at the back. He must cut out his mistakes in the coming fixtures.

Borna Barisic 6/10

The left-back struggled to get forward and didn’t offer enough attacking impetus. His crosses were poor and there are many areas he needs to improve on.

Steven Davis 7/10

Davis knitted his side together as a unit and was the best player on the pitch in the first half. Had a quiet second half.

Ryan Jack 7/10

The central midfielder worked hard to dictate the tempo of the game, and offered a lot in terms of attack in the final third.

Joe Aribo 6/10

Aribo’s presence was evident in the first-half as he tested the Killie defence, but he struggled as the game went on.

Sheyi Ojo 6/10

It wasn’t a convincing outing for Ojo who almost didn’t know what his role was and lacked the productivity.

Scott Arfield 7/10

He opened the score sheet and was a handy asset for Gerrard’s side in their attacking endeavours. He passed the ball really well and popped up in the right areas.

Alfredo Morelos 7/10

Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Morelos showed a lot of intent and hunger up front, and linked well with the likes of Arfield and Ojo.

Substitutions

Jordan Jones 7/10

Jones had his moments but he couldn’t bury the chances. Added a lot of energy after coming on for Ojo late in the second half.

Greg Stewart NA

He was brought on for Arfield with just a couple of minutes left on the clock.

George Edmundson NA
