Following their exit from Carabao Cup as a result of a 3-1 loss against Sunderland on Wednesday, Burnley will host Liverpool at the Turf Moor tomorrow in Matchweek 4 of the 2019-20 Premier League season.
The Clarets have been in decent form this season and will be ruing a couple of missed opportunities against Arsenal and Wolves.
Sean Dyche’s men have collected 4 points from 3 league games so far and are currently sixth in the Premier League standings. However, they will be tested to the limit by the Reds who are yet to drop a point this campaign.
Burnley Team News
Dyche has confirmed that Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s scans revealed that he has a minor calf injury. However, he is unlikely to feature against Jurgen Klopp’s men. Steven Defour also remains out for the upcoming fixture.
Robbie Brady, who is yet to feature this season following a rib injury last month, made a return to action as he played for 75 minutes for Burnley’s Under-23 side. He is also not expected to be available until after the international break.
Predicted Burnley Lineup To Face Liverpool (4-4-2)
Defence
Nick Pope is set to start between the sticks yet again. He will look to celebrate his call-up to England’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo with a memorable display against the mightly Reds.
In central defence, Ben Mee and James Tarkowski could start together. It will certainly be a difficult day at work for the central defensive pair as they will have to keep the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at bay.
Erik Pieters and Matthew Lowton are seemingly likely to operate as the full-backs. Pieters has been productive down the left, having churned a couple of assists so far. Besides, he has also mustered 4.7 tackles per game on an average.
Midfield
Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood have thrived with immense tenacity and perseverance in central midfield. The duo will once again be tasked with the responsibility of controlling the tempo of their play but are likely to spend most of the evening reacting to Liverpool’s attacks.
Former Everton and Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon could get the nod to start on the right side of the midfield. Dwight McNeil has been in impressive form this season and should keep his place on the opposite flank.
Attack
Having scored 4 goals in 3 league outings so far, Ashley Barnes will look to find the back of the net once again. Alongside Barnes, Chris Wood could get the green light to start in the Burnley lineup and the duo will look to prolong Liverpool’s search for a clean sheet.
