Manchester United play their final match of the International Champions Cup and pre-season against AC Milan at the Millenium Stadium on Saturday, a week ahead of the start of the Premier League.
The match will be the final time that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can experiment with the team and give players game time to show him they deserve to start for United against Chelsea in their opening game of the league season.
United have been unbeaten in pre-season, having won all five of their pre-season games, the last of which came against Norwegian side Kristiansund.
Predicted Manchester United lineup vs AC Milan
Goalkeeper
David de Gea is set to start the season as Manchester United’s No. 1, and will also start the game against AC Milan.
Defence
Eric Bailly is the only defender out for Manchester United. Chris Smalling didn’t play for United against Kristiansund, and he could start alongside Victor Lindelof, who seems to be the one that Solskajer trusts the most in central defence.
At right-back, new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue, after having a good pre-season tour. Luke Shaw will be the United manager’s No. 1 choice left-back, and will start against Milan.
Midfield
United still haven’t signed a new midfielder to replace Ander Herrera in the team as the deal to bring Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford has dragged on. Scott McTominay will most likely start alongside Paul Pogba in midfield, having had a good game against Kristiansund last time around.
Juan Mata, who came off the bench against Kristiansund to score the winner from the penalty spot, could start for the Red Devils in the attacking midfield position behind the main striker, against AC Milan.
Attack
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will most likely be Solskjaer’s chief attackers in the new season, but it remains to be seen where each of them will play.
Martial has been played as a central striker in pre-season, and we could see that continue, with Rashford drifting in from wide areas, either from the left or right. New signing Daniel James has been lively on the wings and could also start against Milan.
