Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Manchester United centre-back, Axel Tuanzebe on loan ahead of the 2019-20 Premier League season.
Tuanzebe has impressed in pre-season for the Red Devils, and the Premier League side have high hopes for the 21-year-old centre- back.
As per Daily Mail, Magpies manager Steve Bruce wants to bring the England Under-21 centre-back to the club in a bid to bolster the backline.
Incidentally, Bruce was the manager who signed Tuanzebe on loan last season, while he was the manager of Aston Villa in the Championship.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for a centre-back all summer, with Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly being the prime targets.
If one of those deals does go through, United will have a surplus of first-team centre-backs at the club, which will mean that they will have to let Tuanzebe go out on loan, to get some valuable game time in the Premier League.
Tuanzebe played 30 games for Villa last season in all competitions, impressing with his calmness and passing at the back.
Would Tuanzebe be a good option for Newcastle United?
Newcastle United need to add a few more players to their squad as they currently look light in certain areas. One position that they need to add at least one more player to is the centre-back position.
Ciaran Clark has been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park, as the defender is a target for Crystal Palace, while another centre-back, Fabian Schar, was linked with a move to AC Milan recently.
With Florian Lejeune out due to injury, manager Steve Bruce needs a short-term replacement, and Tuanzebe could be a smart move by the Magpies.
The defender is quick, is a neat passer, and is a calm and composed figure at the back. Many pundits and managers have tipped Tuanzebe to the top, thanks to his quickness in intercepting balls and his comfort at playing the ball on the ground.
The Magpies should certainly make a move for Tuanzebe as he could be a valuable addition to the squad.
