Free Agents XI Featuring Former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur Stars

The transfer window for the top two leagues in England – Premier League and Championship, is now shut, with Premier League teams spending 1.41 billion in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Most Premier League teams would have got the players that they had targetted, but a few would have missed out on targets and will have to wait till January to sign new players. But there are a few free agents who are still available, although they cannot be registered for the Premier League as the deadline has passed.

Let’s take a look at a possible team featuring free agents.

Free agents XI

Goalkeeper

Experienced Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm was released by Tottenham after the 2019 season, following five seasons with the London club. The 35-year-old goalkeeper was Spurs’ backup goalkeeper behind French keeper Hugo Lloris.

Defence

The two centre-backs in our free agents XI is former Liverpool central defender Martin Skrtel, and former Everton central defender Ashley Williams.

Skrtel spent three seasons at Turkish side Fenerbahçe when he joined them from Liverpool, but left the club after the 2018-19 season.

Williams, on the other hand, left Everton after spending the last season on loan at Championship side Stoke City.

Both defenders have a lot of experience in the Premier League and perhaps have one or two seasons left in them before they hang up their boots for good.

Former Real Madrid left-back Fábio Coentrão last played for Portuguese side Rio Ave after signing a one-year deal with the club following his departure from Real Madrid. The 31-year-old played 21 times in the league last season, registering 5 assists.

Former Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson is without a club after being released by Leicester City, where he was an integral part of the Foxes’ 2015-16 Premier League title win. The 32-year-old has made over 200 appearances in the Premier League.

Midfield

Yohan Cabaye and Mile Jedinak form the central midfield of our Free Agents XI, both of whom have played in the Premier League previously. 33-year-old Yohan Cabaye last played for Middle East club Al-Nasr and the former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace player is now a free agent.

Mile Jedinak, meanwhile, was released by Aston Villa following their promotion to the Premier League, after playing in three seasons for the club.

French duo Hatem Ben Arfa and Franck Ribéry are the wide players in this team. Ben Arfa last played for French side Rennes after two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, while Ribery left Bayern Munich after a trophy-laden career with the German club.

Attack

Up front, we have two strikers who could still be useful for top 10 Premier League sides. Daniel Sturridge left Liverpool after being a bit-part player in Jürgen Klopp’s side, while Fernando Llorente was Harry Kane’s deputy at Tottenham.
