Southampton have had a miserable start to their Premier League campaign, losing their first two opening fixtures of the season.
Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has a difficult task at hand, and is in desperate need of a win. The Saints travel to face Brighton on Saturday, a team who are unbeaten in the league so far.
The last time these two sides faced at the Amex Stadium in March, Southampton secured a narrow 1-0 win.
Let’s take a look at the team that Hasenhüttl may put out against Brighton:
Predicted Southampton Lineup vs Brighton
Goalkeeper
Angus Gunn had a decent game against Liverpool last weekend despite conceding two goals. He made a few vital saves and will be the man guarding the posts for the Saints when they face Brighton on Saturday.
Defence
Jannik Vestergaard and Maya Yoshida were brilliant for Southampton against Liverpool as part of the three-man defence, but Jan Bednarek had a poor game, and was at fault for the second goal of the game scored by Roberto Firmino.
We could maybe see highly-rated centre-back Kevin Danso get a game for the Saints and start in defence. The 20-year-old was signed on loan from FC Augsburg, and was on the bench for the Liverpool game.
Wing-backs
Yan Valery had a good game for the Saints as a right wing-back, even putting in a delicate cross for Danny Ings late in the game, but the forward scuffed his shot.
He will continue for Southampton at right wing-back, while Ryan Bertrand, who played as the left wing-back, may be replaced by new signing Moussa Djenepo, who looked lively when he was brought on in the game against Liverpool.
Djenepo may not offer much defensively, but he is very strong going forward and could be a surprise package for the Saints.
Midfield
James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu impressed for the Saints against Liverpool, the latter pressing well to deny the Liverpool forwards too much time on the ball.
Captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg didn’t have as good a game as his midfield partners, but he is an important part of the Saints midfield, and all three of the midfielders who played against Liverpool will most likely start against Brighton.
Attack
Danny Ings scored a fortuitous goal against his old club, and could have grabbed a point for his team if he had put away an easy chance in the latter stages of the game.
He could start up top with Nathan Redmond, which could see new signing Che Adams dropping to the bench.
