Crystal Palace interested in a move for Spanish midfield ace: Smart choice by Hodgson

Crystal Palace are weighing up a move for Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa who has three more years left on his contract with the La Liga club.

According to a report from Wales Online, the Eagles contacted Cardiff City, where the Betis midfielder spent his 2018/19 season on loan, to enquire about the 25-year-old.

The Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock, speaking at a press conference, revealed another Premier League club in Burnley also contacted them about the Spaniard, the report adds.

Warnock rated him as one of the best midfielders he has worked with and the right-footed midfielder was also a fan favourite at the Cardiff City Stadium.

He scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in 33 appearances for the Welsh club but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save them from relegation.

Good Move?

Camarasa is a versatile player who can play across all the positions in the midfield and boasts a flexible style of play as per his manager’s demands.

The 25-year-old is efficient in both phases of the game, carrying the ball forward during the build-up phase and hitting the opposition on the counter with his dexterity and decision making.

The Betis midfielder may not be the best passer of the ball but compares favourably given the options at Hodgson’s disposal with the exception of Milivojevic.

He averaged an adequate pass success rate of 75.1% with 1.3 crosses, 1.4 long balls and 1.6 key passes per game which highlights his ability to create goal-scoring opportunities in the final third.

The Spaniard is comfortable with the ball at his feet and possesses decent dribbling skills. His shooting ability is also something which keeps the defensive midfielders on their toes.

He managed 1.1 dribbles and 1.3 shots per 90 minutes, which speaks volumes about his confidence in possession, especially in the final third.

Other than his attacking contributions, the former Cardiff City loanee also performs his duty in the defensive half.

Although tackling and aerial ability aren’t his strongest suits, the Spaniard’s proven Premier League pedigree will be a major boost to his new employers.

He recorded 0.9 tackles, 1 interception, 0.8 clearances and 0.6 aerial duels won per game across all competitions last term.

All in all, the 25-year-old sounds like a good addition to most Premier League sides outside the top six and can add both quality and depth to most mid-table clubs in the English top-flight.
