3 Man United players who have to step up against Southampton- £80m signing features

southampton lineup

Manchester United will have to navigate a tricky trip to St.Mary’s on Saturday before the International break kicks in.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faced a major setback last weekend where his side lost to Crystal Palace for the first time in the top-flight. And to make matters worse, the result was coming on the back of a draw against Wolves.

Southampton had a horror start to the season themselves losing two on the trot but have followed it up with two wins of their own since. They will relish facing the Red Devils at this stage of the season.

With a win for the Old Trafford outfit imperative, let us take a look at the 3 players who could help them ride over the blues.

MARCUS RASHFORD

He is likely to lead the line in the absence of Anthony Martial. The academy sensation missed a penalty last week but has more than enough experience to be able to bounce back.

He will be United’s main goal threat in the early kick-off on Saturday. Having scored  2 goals in the opening week, he has blanked twice now. But we are backing him to get back in the goals on Saturday and help United get back to winning ways.

HARRY MAGUIRE

The former Leicester City man-mountain hasn’t yet had the impact many expect him to finally have. It is still early days and he will need a settling in period with his new teammates. But Ole has put a lot of the onus on the English centre-back to sort out the defence.

Many are secretly hoping for a Virgil van Dijk’esque’ impact from him and that indeed puts immense pressure on the new signing. Maguire is not short on confidence though and will back himself and his fellow defenders to rise to the occasion against the Saints.

DAVID DE GEA

Manchester United were desperate to enter the season with the contract conundrum done and dusted. But it was not to be. And by the looks of it, de Gea’s patchy form has continued along with the bumpy contract talks.

United need their Spaniard ‘Superdave’ to shed his recent cloak of mediocrity and get back to his old self. While it is easier said than done, till the time he is a United player, the fans will keep expecting only the best from him. And so will David, we feel.
