Former Tottenham manager wants club to make a move for Real Madrid star: Does it make sense?

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer. They are looking at a number of star players to add to their squad and one player whose name has intermittently been linked with them over the years is Gareth Bale.

The Real Madrid winger is currently unsettled in Spain and according to reports, Spurs want to bring him back to London for a price around the £50m mark. However, all such rumours were recently squashed by Bale’s agent, who termed them as ‘rubbish’.

But former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham should do what it takes to land Bale this summer.

Speaking on  Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Redknapp said:

“I don’t know if there’s any truth in the rumour if Jonathon Barnett’s denied it – but I think it would be a great move for Tottenham,”

“I’d love to see him come back to England. I know he’s earning a fortune there and he won’t walk away from that,’ he added.

Should Spurs Make Their Move?

Currently 30, Bale has now won four Champions League titles, three Club World Cups and a league title in Spain and is currently one of the most decorated wingers in Europe.

However, he has made more than 25 league starts in just one of the six seasons he has been at the Bernabeu. He has always been an outsider to the first team, even under Zinedine Zidane, who is now ready to let him leave this summer.

Last season, Bale played the full minutes in just six games and is sure to be tempted to move back to his former club in London.

He has scored some incredible, clutch goals for the Spanish giants and deserves further chances at the club. But the addition of Eden Hazard will certainly push him further down the pecking order, so this move to Spurs is a no-brainer for the player.

As for Spurs, with Lucas Moura and Heung Min-Son as the only natural wingers in the squad, Bale will walk into the first team at The Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Even at his age, he has a good few years left ahead of him and could be a huge coup for the London club.

A genuine match-winner, Bale will make Spurs one of the strongest sides in the competition and his experience at the highest stage is sure to rub off on star players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Certain reports claim that Real Madrid might have to pay a part of his wage if they agree to sell him this summer, which makes this deal all the more attractive for the English side.

There are very few names available in the transfer market that can be as effective as Bale for Spurs and if they can snap him up on the cheap, on Daniel Levy’s terms, Spurs could end up with one of the best deals of the summer transfer window this year.
