Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their chase for Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon as they look to shore up their squad before the players gear up for next season.
The north London side are the firm contenders to land the 19-year-old, who has just a year remaining on his current contract, claim the Guardian.
The report further claims that Spurs will offload current first-choice left-back Danny Rose, so Sessegnon’s arrival could become all the more important.
The young full-back showed plenty of promise in his first season in the top-flight, even though Fulham were eventually relegated.
Sessegnon finished the season with 2 goals and 6 assists in 38 appearances for the Cottagers across all competitions last season.
A wise move by Tottenham to go after Ryan Sessegnon?
Sessegnon is a versatile player who can feature anywhere on the left. Known for his ability to drive at teams in the final third, Sessegnon also has the work ethic, which is why he can be used in a left-back role.
The England under-21 international is very similar to Danny Rose, as he has a good burst of pace, and can put in a dangerous delivery into the box. His decision-making in the final third is also pretty good, and he managed 33 key passes last season.
Defensively, Sessegnon can improve further as he has shown the tendency to drift into the attacking zones a more than needed. However, he is still only 19, and his game awareness will improve with time.
One can expect of the 19-year-old to elevate his game to the next level playing in this Tottenham Hotspur side under someone like Pochettino, who has completely changed the outlook of the club.
Rose, had a good season with Tottenham, and he will be a miss. But if Pochettino can chisel Sessegnon like he managed to do with Rose, Spurs could have an even better player in their squad very soon.
The fact that Sessegnon has already played in the Premier League will only help his integration process. Although he will take a bit of time to become a regular at Tottenham, Sessegnon is a top option for Spurs this summer to replace Rose.
