Tottenham Linked With Versatile Napoli Fullback: A Smart Choice By Pochettino

tottenham hotspur

Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj has emerged as a subject of interest for Tottenham Hotspur in the ongoing transfer window, according to reports.

Spurs’ right-back Kieran Trippier has completed his move to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a 3-year deal.

As per Gazzetta, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are interested to acquire the services of Hysaj in order to fill the void created by the Englishman’s exit.

Spurs have been proactive in the transfer window this summer, having already signed two quality players in Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke, with the latter sent back on loan to Leeds United.

Pochettino is still in the market to complete a few more deals and has put Hysaj on his radar to make sure he has no dearth of options in Tottenham’s elusive quest for silverware in the next season.

Elseid Hysaj: Career so far

Hysaj started his senior career at Italian side Empoli and after having carved a name for himself in the Italian football setup, he moved to the ranks of Napoli in the summer of 2015.

He is a versatile operator and can ply his trade both as a left-back and a right-back, something which will be welcomed by the tactically flexible Pochettino.

The 25-year-old made 27 appearances in the Serie A during the previous campaign and mustered 1.5 tackles and 1.6 clearances on an average.

Besides, he also garnered a couple of assists and considering that he has become a key figure in the Albanian national side, it goes without saying that he already has plenty of experience under his belt.

What will Hysaj bring to the table?

Hysaj is an all-action defender who makes good use of his intelligence to read the attacking endeavours of the opposition. He is a tough tackler and boasts a strong and imposing physique.

He has pace to burn and gets forward on a regular basis to ping crosses into the box. He has good positional awareness and hardly ever gets caught out by the opposition.

Pochettino prefers to have disciplined players on his books and Hysaj is someone he would love to have under him. He is a calm and composed player at the back and is also impressive in one-vs.-one situations.

The fans will be buoyed by the urgency shown by the Lilywhites time around and there is optimism around the club with the squad potentially looking like it will be better equipped to deal with the rigours of both the Champions League and the domestic competitions, given Levy is expected to reach for his chequebook a couple of times more in the next few weeks.
