Newcastle United will have to pay £15m to sign 16-goal attacker: Should they make a move?

The signing of Joelinton will certainly make Newcastle United a stronger side, but Steve Bruce will have to address a few other areas in the squad, for which he does not have too much time in the transfer market.

The transfer window is less than a couple of weeks away from its deadline, and Liverpool star Harry Wilson is one player Bruce is desperate to sign, according to reports from Wales Online.

The Welsh international, also wanted by Aston Villa, could be available for around £15 million this summer. The Magpies could also strike a loan deal with an option to buy at £20 million, but is this a deal that Bruce should make this summer?

Harry Wilson – Profile

Having started his youth career at Merseyside, Wilson is yet to play a single league game for the senior side. He spent that last year and a half out on loan, first with Hull City and then with Derby County, slowly making a name for himself.

He was named the Academy Player of the Year for the Reds before joining Frank Lampard at Derby County, where he managed 16 goals and four assists in 40 Championship starts.

Wilson also established himself as an important part of the Welsh national side, where he now has two goals in 11 caps for his country.

Mainly a winger, the 22-year old was used on the right-wing by Lampard, but did a decent job when asked to play through the middle on a few occasions last season.

He is a technically gifted player with a keen eye for goal. He can test the ‘keeper from long range and is usually effective with his passing.

Wilson’s speed and his close control make him a hard man to mark and though he is reluctant to cross, he can create chances regularly and will be a huge asset for a team like Newcastle United.

Should Newcastle make a move for Wilson?

The Magpies had Ayoze Perez, Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almiron and Kenedy, all playing in on the wings last season.

Perez is no longer at the club while Kenedy is back with Chelsea after the end of his loan spell, leaving Bruce with the urgent requirement to sign a quality winger.

Given that they have already spent big on a secondary striker in Joelinton, Newcastle United cannot afford a star winger this summer, which makes Wilson a smart choice for the club.

The Liverpool star will want to play more games and could be a regular in the first team at St James’ Park next season.

He has shown enough promise in the pre-season for Jurgen Klopp to keep him as a back-up, so the Magpies need to show real interest if they are to sign him this summer.
