Huddersfield Town are in the race to sign versatile Chelsea midfielder and defender Trevoh Chalobah this summer, it has been reported.
Following their relegation to the Championship, the Terriers are trying to refresh their squad and Goal have claimed that they are keen to sign Chalobah.
Chalobah is one of the highly-rated young guns at the Stamford Bridge but the Blues might prefer to sell him instead of sending him out on loan yet again.
The 20-year-old had spent the previous campaign at Ipswich Town where he impressed, which is why Huddersfield Town have put him on their radar.
Reportedly, Chelsea might also consider extending his contract prior to loaning him out, if they decide to do so, as he has less than a couple of years left on his current deal with the London based outfit.
It is worth noting that he has been handed merely 45 minutes by manager Frank Lampard in the pre-season fixtures, as he featured in the 1-1 draw with Bohemians.
Lampard has a plethora of stars in his arsenal to use in the upcoming campaign and in all honesty, another loan spell could benefit all the parties involved.
Should Huddersfield go all out to sign him?
Chalobah is one of the finest prospects in English football at the moment. Boasting a tall frame, he is quick across the ground and makes good use of his strength.
The English Under-20 international is commendable in the air, showcases immense work ethic to win the ball back from the opposition and has a thoroughly commanding presence on the pitch.
He is comfortable with the ball and reads the game meticulously. Besides, he has the tendency to launch forward and he links up well with the wingers.
Under the tutelage of Paul Lambert at Ipswich Town, he plied his trade as a central defender and also as a central defensive midfielder in the Championship last season.
In his 43 appearances, he scored 2 goals and bagged an assist and stood apart because of the versatility he offers.
His defensive statistics were intriguing as he mustered 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2 clearances per game on an average and will be a decent signing by Jan Siewert.
Chalobah might not be a finished article as of now but he showed steady signs of growth last season, which he needs to continue, playing regular football.
Huddersfield Town need some quality reinforcements this summer to have a decent season in the second-tier and Chalobah could certainly give them a boost in that regard given his experience playing in the Championship.
