Everton’s English winger subject of a lucrative bid: Should the Toffees accept the offer?

Everton have made one big signing this summer in Andre Gomes, who has moved on a permanent deal to the Toffees from Barcelona after a loan spell with the club last year. They have sold or released quite a few players as well.

The Merseyside club may sell another player, 21-year-old Ademola Lookman, who has attracted interest from German club RB Leipzig. A report in Daily Mail has revealed that Leipzig have put in a bid of around £22.5 million for the youngster, who had signed for Everton in 2017 for around £7.5 million from Charlton Athletic. The report further goes on to state that the initial fee will be £18 million plus £4.5 million in add-ons.

Lookman had spent the second half of the 2017-18 season at RB Leipzig on loan, after moving to the club in 2017. He impressed in his spell at the German club, scoring 5 goals in 11 games for the club.

The England U-21 international made just six starts in his 24 appearances for the club, scoring one goal for the club and providing two assists.

Should the Toffees sell?

Lookman is a winger who can play on both wings out on the left or right, and is an exciting talent, but hasn’t quite made an impression on manager Marco Silva. The youngster is a quick and skilful winger who can beat defenders and is a deadly weapon to have in counter-attacking situations, but he hasn’t quite made an impact for the Toffees.

Everton also have quite a few options out wide, both on the left and right. On the left side of attack, the Brazilian pair of Bernard and Richarlison, the latter who was a part of Brazil’s Copa America squad which won the title, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another option on the left. Silva also has options on the right with Theo Walcott as well as Richarlison, who is capable of playing there.

£22.5 million is also a very good fee for a player who has not really delivered on the pitch and Everton could possibly invest that money to secure targets in key areas, especially the striker’s position, which is a role that needs a massive upgrade for the English club. Silva and the Everton management should let go of Lookman as they may not get a better deal for him.
