Everton’s summer transfer window is far from over as they are now active in the transfer market, looking to replace Idrissa Gueye, who joined PSG in a £30m deal.
The Toffees are looking at some interesting names from around Europe and Southampton star Mario Lemina is also on their wish-list claim reports from Sky Sports.
Also wanted in Italy, France and Spain, Lemina was linked with the likes of Wolves and Manchester United in England but Everton are desperate to replace Gueye with Lemina this summer.
Lemina And His History
Born and brought up in Gabon, Lemina started his senior career with Lorient in France, played for Marseille and Juventus before joining The Saints back in 2017.
In his two seasons in England, Lemina established himself as a crucial part of the squad at St Mary’s, playing 46 games for the club.
Last season, he was used as a backup to Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Oriol Romeu, both of who were consistently impressive at the heart of the midfield for Southampton.
But Lemina is a gifted footballer with great vision and even better temperament. He reads the game well and is adept at breaking up play in dangerous areas. He is strong in hold up play, can be a menace in the air and can also create chances from a deep midfield role, making him a complete midfielder.
He loves to dribble out of tight spaces and is caught out at times but playing as a part of a two-man midfield, Lemina can act as a link to the defence and the attack for his side.
The 25-year old is more than capable of playing as a holding midfielder as well and his experience in England will certainly be a huge asset for Everton if they decide to sign him.
Right Man For Everton?
The Toffees just lost one of the most consistent midfielders in the league.
Gueye was right up there with the best tacklers in the league in every season he has played in England and his grit and determination in the middle of the park will be a huge loss for Marco Silva’s side.
But Lemina could be a decent replacement, given his style of play and the experience he brings to the club.
With Gueye gone, The Toffees have Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies who can play as defensive midfielders. Andre Gomes will want to push up the field and Lemina certainly helps with it.
The Southampton man will walk into the first team in the no.6 role. He not only adds a defensive cover to the backline but will also make Everton a more balanced side on the field.
