Opinion: 3 right-backs Everton could target this summer including Swansea City defensive ace

Everton are looking to sign a right-back this summer, Marco Silva has confirmed.

The Toffees sanctioned the season-long loan move of Jonjoe Kenny to Schalke and are keen to inject competition for first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman.

Under the stewardship of Silva, Everton have already lured Jonas Lossl, Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes to the Goodison Park this summer.

By signing a proven right-back, they could challenge for a European spot next season and here are three right-backs they could target.

Santiago Arias

Atletico Madrid defensive ace Santiago Arias could be a shrewd signing by Silva. The 27-year-old made 25 appearances in La Liga last season and managed to bag a goal and an assist.

However, Arias might get limited opportunities in the upcoming campaign as Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Tripper has completed his move to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

It was reported by Liverpool Echo that the Merseyside based outfit were keen to sign him earlier this summer and El Gol Digital stated that signing him could cost as much as £35million.

Considering the scenario right now, it would be the right time for Everton to go all in to sign Arias. He is a battle-hardened defender and will undoubtedly enhance the quality of Silva’s backline if the deal materializes.

Connor Roberts

Everton can also look to target Swansea City ace, Connor Roberts. Primarily a right-back, he can also deputise as the left-back. His versatility will come in handy as Leighton Baines has looked a tad unreliable even as a back-up given his injury travails.

Roberts has plenty of experience under his belt, having played for Yeovil Town, Bristol Rovers, Middlesbrough and the Swans and has shown immense maturity and calmness while discharging his duties.

Last season, he mustered 45 appearances in the Championship and bagged 5 goals and an assist. He is a modern-day full-back and has the calibre to make a quick transition from defence to attack.

He is an excellent passer of the ball and has pace to burn, which make him an appealing commodity for any top side. The Welsh international has proved his mettle in the Championship and seems to be ready for the next step up in his career.

Omar Elabdellaoui

The all-action Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui could be an exciting option for the Blues. Silva is well familiar with Elabdellaoui, having worked together at Olympiacos and Hull City.

The 27-year-old has certainly impressed during his five seasons with the Greek giants. He is a versatile player down the right and is renowned for his immense work ethic and tenacity.

Elabdellaoui is comfortable with the ball at his feet, makes driving runs forward and is also a good crosser of the ball. All qualities which will help him challenge Coleman for a spot in the starting eleven.
