Crystal Palace keen to sign Liverpool ace to replace ex-fullback sensation: Can he do a good job?

nathaniel clyne

The loss of a player like Aaron wan Bissaka is never easy to deal with. Crystal Palace lost their best defender from the previous season, and are now desperate to find an able replacement before the start of next season.

And Liverpool star Nathaniel Clyne is now on their radar claim Daily Mail. The English international is open to a move back to Selhurst Park this summer, and with just a year left on his current deal, could be available on the cheap.

However, is Clyne the right option for Palace and Roy Hodgson or should they spend big on a more prolific name?

Clyne’s and his career

Clyne started his senior career with Crystal Palace, where he made 122 league appearances before joining Southampton in 2012. At the South Coast, he turned into one of the best full-backs in the country, and played more than 30 league games for the club twice in three seasons.

He joined Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers in 2015, and played 70 Premier League games in his first two seasons, to add to 14 Europa League games, where he helped the Reds to the final.

However, in the last season and the one before, he lost his place in the first team to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, and was sent out on loan to Bournemouth for the second half of the last campaign.

Clyne was a regular for the Cherries, making 13 league starts at right-back and showed enough promise for a club like Palace to come calling.

The 28-year old is one of the most experienced full-backs in the country at the moment. He is defensively astute while his positioning in the backline is also impressive.

He is not the greatest crosser of the ball, but is more than adept at creating chances from out wide. But Clyne is mainly a defensive full-back, who loves to sit back and soak up the pressure.

Under Hodgson, he will be a perfect fit for Palace this summer.

Right man to replace Wan-Bissaka?

The youngster, who only recently completed his move to Manchester United, is regarded as one of the best players in his position in the country now.

But like Clyne, Wan-Bissaka was also not extremely effective in attack. The youngster may be a bit more athletic and quick with his movements at the back, but Clyne is more than capable of holding his fort at the back.

Like already mentioned, the Liverpool player will also be available on the cheap so signing Clyne this summer is a no-brainer for The Eagles.
