Aston Villa agree £8.75million fee for wing-wizard: Pros and cons of signing him

Newly-promoted Aston Villa are set to continue their spending in the transfer window as they are closing in on yet another signing.

The Villans have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Egyptian winger Trezeguet from Turkish club Kasimpasa for a fee of around £8.75 million.

A report in Kingfut has revealed that the 24-year-old has agreed personal terms with the English club and are set to sign him ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Trezeguet – Profile

The Egyptian winger previously played for Al Ahly and Anderlecht before joining Kasimpasa on loan and then a permanent deal.

Trezeguet, whose real name is Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, impressed for the Turkish club, as well as Egypt in the African Cup of Nations, scoring 9 goals and making 9 assists for his club, and one goal and one assist for his national team.

Ahead of his move to Aston Villa, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of signing him:

Pros

Trezeguet is a quick and skillful winger, who likes to take on opposition defenders with his dribbling and pace. He completed 112 successful dribbles in the 2019-20 season for Kasimpasa, while completing 78 key passes in the season.

The winger, who plays on the left and likes to cut into central areas with his favoured right foot, is a player that would fit very well in the Premier League’s direct and pacey style of football.

The Egyptian is also a hard-working player, who has a tremendous work-rate, going up and down the flanks and helping his team out in defensive areas. Trezeguet is also a versatile player who can play in more than one position as he is capable of playing on the left or right, as a midfielder or further up the field in a front three.

The 24-year old always plays on the front foot, with his passing, dribbling, or shooting at goal, and is a player who could be very useful in counter-attacking situations.

Cons

One criticism of Trezeguet is that he does not convert too many of his chances and isn’t very clinical in front of goal.

The Egyptian took 137 shots on goal last season, but converted only 9 of them into goals.

When compared with the Turkish league’s top scorer of 2018-19 season, Mbaye Diagne, the stats make a poor reading as the Senegalese striker scored 30 goals from 100 shots on goal.
