Arsenal legend urges Emery to sign this Premier League winner: Right option for the club?

David Seaman has urged Arsenal to sign Joe Hart this summer in order to add more strength and depth to the goalkeeping department.

Petr Cech hanged up his boots at the end of the previous campaign, while David Ospina has sealed his £3.1million permanent move to Napoli.

The Gunners now have Bernd Leno as their only experienced shot-stopper as the likes of Emiliano Martinez, Matt Macey, and Dejan Iliev are relatively unproven.

Arsenal do need someone to challenge Leno for the place in goal next season. The north Londoners were keen to sign Dynamo Dresden goalkeeper Markus Schubert, but the highly-rated German shot-stopper has joined Schalke instead.

Seaman, who won the Premier League twice with Arsenal, firmly believes that the Hart could be a decent option for Unai Emery’s side.

“I don’t think they need someone like Schubert as Leno’s number two either – why not look at Joe Hart or Jack Butland as a number two?” Seaman was quoted as saying by Football.london.

“They have loads of experience. That’s the sort of quality they should be looking at as the club’s number two at the moment.”

Should Arsenal make a move for Hart?

Hart has a lot of experience under his belt, having played for the likes of Manchester City, Torino, West Ham United. He is currently with Burnley.

Prior to Pep Guardiola’s arrival, the English international used to feature regularly for Manchester City, and played a key role for the Sky Blues as they lifted the top-flight title twice with him in the side.

After the Spaniard took over, the 32-year-old was sent out on loan to the ranks of Torino and West Ham, and was eventually signed by the Clarets permanently last summer.

However, Hart failed to establish himself at Turf Moor during the previous season and played mainly as a second fiddle to Nick Pope and Tom Heaton.

Arsenal are operating with a tight budget of £40million and have a lot of areas to address. So, if they can sign a Hart for cheap, they will be able to focus on strengthening other areas of the pitch.

Hart mustered 19 Premier League appearances last season, and managed to keep 4 clean sheets. He also made as many as 77 saves. Barring a few dodgy performances, he had a pretty decent season.

Although Hart won’t be a marquee signing for the Gunners, he still has what it takes to feature for a top side and his experience will be vital next season.

Arsenal will play a lot of games next season, so they would need a reliable backup option in goal.
