Newcastle United linked with a transfer for box-to-box midfielder: SWOT analysis

Newcastle_United

Newcastle United, under manager Rafa Benitez, have grown by leaps and bounds, and it is now an exciting time to be a Magpies fan, with the imminent change of ownership and the possibility of more funds to the transfer kitty.

The Newcastle board haven’t confirmed yet if Rafa Benitez will continue as the manager of the club next season. But, the rumour mill continues to link Newcastle United with several players

The latest player to be linked with the Magpies is Chelsea youngster Kyle Scott, as per The Sun.

Kyle Scott – Profile

Scott has come through the Chelsea academy, but has played just one game for the senior team.

The right-footed player is a central midfielder who can also play in a defensive midfield position or further up the field in an attacking midfield position.

The midfielder played for Dutch second division side Telstar last season, and his contract with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of this month. Scott made 14 appearances in the season, scoring 2 goals for the club.

Scott was born in England but has featured for multiple nations in youth football. He played for England in the U16 team, then the Republic of Ireland in the U17 team, and represented the United States U18 and U20 teams. He is also eligible to play for the Italian national team.

Strength

Scott is a traditional English box-to-box midfielder who can make crucial tackles in the heart of midfield.

A technically gifted player, the young English-born player can move the ball from midfield to attack, and assist in the transitional phases of the game.

Weaknesses

He lacks strength while fending off opposition defenders, which is one area where he may have to improve on.

Opportunities

Scott will be available on a free transfer, which means Newcastle won’t have much to lose and can take a gamble.

Newcastle need reinforcements in central midfield as Mohamed Diamé is set to leave the club in a free transfer, while Sean Longstaff has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Isaac Hayden is also expected to leave.

Threats

His lack of experience in top-level football in any European league, let alone the Premier League, means he is likely to struggle to get used to the pace of the league.
