Manchester United turn their attention to Norwich City sensation: Right move by Ole?

Manchester United will shift their sights towards 19-year-old full-back Max Aarons if they cannot complete a deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the transfer window, as per Sky Sports. There has been speculation linking Wan-Bissaka with a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting that Crystal Palace want £60 million for the full-back and that a recent bid of £40m was rejected.

Max Aarons is a 19-year-old right-back who currently plays for Norwich City, who were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship. The Red Devils aren’t the only team interested in signing Aarons, as the likes of RB Leipzig, Tottenham and even Crystal Palace are keen on adding him to their squad for the upcoming season.

The player was one of the stars of Norwich’s season, winning the Young Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season, while also being a part of the Team of the Season. The England U-19 international made 43 appearances in all competitions, ending the season with 3 goals and 6 assists.

Aarons played for Luton Town before moving to Norwich City in 2016 and only made his senior debut at the start of the 2018-19 season. Following some impressive performances in the Championship, he was called up to the English U-19 team in 2018 and has gone on to make 7 appearances for them. He played ahead of the much more experienced Ivo Pinto in the Norwich team in the 2018-19 season.

A good option?

A move to sign Max Aarons over Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be considerably cheaper for Manchester United. But, United should think twice about making this move as they already possess a young, promising talent in Diogo Dalot, who could be groomed to take on a more prominent role in the future.

Aarons also does not possess any Premier League experience unlike Wan-Bissaka, who was in phenomenal form in the Premier League, which could be another reason why the move to sign Aarons is rather puzzling.

Would Aarons start ahead of Dalot in the United team next season? It doesn’t seem like that could happen. United should pursue the signing of Wan-Bissaka, but if that deal cannot be completed, they should sign someone with experience and quality as the need of the hour is someone who can turn up for the Red Devils week in week out and impose himself upon the big guns which the Crystal Palace man seems perfectly equipped to do right now.
