Leeds United plotting a transfer for Championship midfielder: A good option for Bielsa?

Leeds United have been linked with quite a few players since the end of the 2018-19 Championship season, from players in the Premier League and Championship.

The Whites are reportedly interested in Bristol City’s Josh Brownhill, as per Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old midfielder has a price tag of around £15 million, and Leeds will have to beat the likes of Derby County, Sheffield United, and Brighton to his signature.

Brownhill joined Bristol City from Preston North End in 2016 after his contract with Preston expired.

The Englishman was a part of Manchester United’s youth set-up before joining Preston in 2012. He made 64 appearances for Preston before switching over to Bristol City, becoming an important player for Bristol over the last two seasons in the Championship.

In the 49 appearances for Bristol City in the 2018-19 season, Brownhill scored 6 goals and 4 assists, helping Bristol to an eighth-place finish in the Championship. The Englishman has played 132 times for Bristol City, scoring 12 goals.

Brownhill won the Football League trophy for Barnsley, when he was on loan at the club, in 2015-16.

The 23-year old’s current contract with Bristol City expires in 2021, having signed his last contract in 2017.

Is Brownhill a good option for Leeds United?

At the end of the 2018-19 season, Leeds suffered a few injuries that derailed their momentum and ultimately hit their chances of getting promoted to the Premier League.

The Whites’ squad needs serious bolstering in the summer as they have looked short of numbers in some areas.

One area that they need to add one or two players is in central midfield and Josh Brownhill could be a good signing for them.

Brownhill is a player who always has his eye on progressing up the field, and making things work near to the opposition’s goal with his driving runs.

The 23-year-old primarily played as a central midfielder, but has also been used as a defensive and attacking midfielder as well as on the right side of midfield.

A player who is good in the air and also likes to shoot from distance, Brownhill has the tenacity and drive to be a key player for the Leeds team next year.
