Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a bold transfer for Real Madrid ace: Smashing move by Poch

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a bold move for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio in order to bolster their squad for next season.

According to a report from TransfermarketWeb, the Spaniard is on Tottenham’s radar, but the north London outfit will have to break the bank to sign the player.

Asensio was signed by Real Madrid for a mere €3.5 million, and has already lifted almost every trophy with Los Blancos in his three-year spell with the club.

The Spaniard registered 13 goal contributions, netting 6 goals across all competitions in the 2018/19 season.

Asensio would elevate Tottenham’s attacking quality

Asensio is a versatile player who can play on either wing or in a number 10 role as an attacking midfielder. The Spaniard had a disappointing World Cup with Spain last year, and an average season with Real Madrid as well, but it was his first real bad phase in his impressive career so far.

The 23-year-old has a wonderful left foot and no matter where he plays, his long-range shooting ability is a constant threat in the final third.

Asensio is a fine dribbler of the ball, his key passes, through balls and link up play with his teammates are some of his key attributes where the young Spaniard excels.

Despite an underwhelming campaign with Real Madrid, Asensio managed better dribbling and pass accuracy than Dele Alli, so the Spaniard does have quality.

Asensio’s general awareness and ability to hold up the play makes him lethal in the attacking third. At times, he also drops deep to get involved in the build-up play, thereby forcing players to come out and break their defensive shape.

The 23-year old also provides the threat for Real on the counter-attack. His direct running and burst of pace to get past defenders mean he can move the ball up the pitch quite quickly.

Like any other player, Asensio does have a few areas where he can improve. For a player who is six feet, his aerial prowess is quite disappointing. Another area that Mauricio Pochettino won’t like is his lack of defensive contribution on the pitch.

Spurs boss Pochettino can use a player of Asensio’s flexibility in the final third.
