Shaqiri to Start, Brewster in Contention: Predicted Liverpool Lineup vs Barcelona

Liverpool face an uphill task in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Reds are 3-0 down, and will be without some star players which makes it even harder against Barcelona.

The Blaugrana were beaten by Celta Vigo this past weekend, but made 11 changes which means they will be fresh for the clash at Anfield.

Liverpool managed to win late against Newcastle United, but the game did come at a cost. Confidence wise, though, they needed the win ahead of another huge night at Anfield.

Liverpool Team News

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been ruled out for the clash and that diminishes any hope the Liverpool fans had.

Salah hasn’t been cleared medically after suffering from a concussion against Newcastle United on Saturday, while Firmino has a muscle injury.

We might see Trent Alexander-Arnold return to the starting lineup, after sitting out the first leg. Oxlade-Chamberlain might get a few minutes too as Naby Keita has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Liverpool academy star Rhian Brewster is in line for his debut, but might not start the game.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup vs Barcelona

Defence

Alisson should start once again, and we might see Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez start at the heart of the defence for the first time in a while.

Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will have to be at the top of their game at both ends of the pitch. Both full-backs have played a crucial role for the Reds with their attacking forays this season.

With Salah absent, Alexander-Arnold will have even more responsibility of offering the attacking impetus from the right.

Midfield

Fabinho should feature in the defensive midfield role, and he might be supported by Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum.

Pressing will once again be a key facet, and we might even see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the second half owing to his directness and goal-threat.

Attack

Daniel Sturridge didn’t have the best of outings against Newcastle United, so we expect Sadio Mane to feature in the number nine role.

Divock Origi scored the late winner, and should feature on the left, while Xherdan Shaqiri should get his much-awaited start in Salah’s absence.
