Newcastle United seem to be in the market of a wide player, after recent reports linked them with Benfica winger Rafa Silva.

Now, the Magpies are interested in 21-year-old Swansea City winger Daniel James, who impressed in the Championship this year for the Welsh club, as per various reports.

James is predominantly a left-sided winger, but has shown his versatility by playing in a number of positions for Swansea City this year.

The attacker has just one year on his contract and is estimated to be worth around £10 million in the summer transfer window. Manchester United and Arsenal are keen on signing the rapid winger, while Liverpool have recently shown interest in the Welsh winger as well.

Is James a good option for Rafa?

James, who made his debut for Wales last year, has scored 5 times this year, including a breathtaking solo goal against Brentford in the FA Cup, while also registering 10 assists in the Championship, helping Swansea City to a solid 10th position finish.

The 21-year-old would be a great option for Rafa Benitez in the Premier League having shown great energy, pace, and dribbling ability in the Championship this year. James has begun a majority of his games from the left side of midfield for Swansea City, cutting in with his stronger right foot, and feeding through balls to his teammates.

A quick passer of the ball, James’ dribbling can catch the opposition out, while his phenomenal turn of pace could be a great asset for Benitez’s side. A skillful player who has played in several positions, including a brief stint as a striker, at around £10 million, James will be a steal for Premier League clubs.

In his first full season for Swansea City, where he made 31 appearances in all competitions, James has impressed on the pitch which has led to the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United vying for his signature.

James was close to signing with Leeds United in the January transfer window, but the deal fell through after disagreement between the Chairman of Swansea City and the owners.

With just one year remaining on his contract, Swansea City are willing to let go of the talented 21-year-old in the summer transfer window.
