Opinion: Manchester United among clubs who should target this Bundesliga goal-machine

luka jovic

Luka Jovic has dropped a massive hint that he would prefer a move to Premier League this summer.

The Serbian international told Die Welt“In terms of the physique, the Bundesliga is very demanding, but after the games against Chelsea or Inter Milan, I personally had the feeling that I could feel even better [playing] in the Premier League or Serie A.”

This could be a massive boost for English clubs in their pursuit of Jovic, who is likely to leave Eintracht Frankfurt.

We take a look at three Premier League clubs who should target the highly talented attacker this summer.

Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to build his squad around young players at Manchester United next season. And with Romelu Lukaku linked with a move away from Old Trafford, Jovic would be a welcome addition.

Unlike Lukaku, Jovic is adept in carrying the ball in the final third, and has the ability to link-up really well with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Jovic likes to make intelligent runs in behind the defence, and could also provide a genuine counter-attacking threat.

The Serb’s potential partnership with Rashford might make United a much more cohesive attacking unit than what they were under Solskjaer in the final few months of the recently concluded season.

Manchester City

Another Manchester club who should make a move for Jovic this summer, Manchester City will be keen to offload Gabriel Jesus after an underwhelming season.

Jovic, in that regard, would be an ideal replacement for the ex-Palmeiras prodigy. The Serbian’s ability to take on defenders, get in-behind defences and link-up with attackers makes him a tailor-made fit for Pep Guardiola’s possession-based game at the Etihad.

And at the age of just 21, Jovic could be groomed into a potential long-term replacement for someone like Sergio Aguero, who is already nearing the final phase of his career.

Chelsea

Chelsea‘s transfer ban being upheld by FIFA has served as a massive blow for the Premier League giants. And to make things worse, they are also preparing for life without Eden Hazard next season, with Belgian seemingly closing in on the move to Real Madrid this summer.

Hazard’s imminent departure accentuates the need of a new attacker, especially considering how Gonzalo Higuain struggled under Maurizio Sarri. Hence, a new face in attack is needed, and no one is better for that job than Jovic.

The Serbian has the qualities to add more spark as well as the youthful exuberance to the Chelsea attack, that has hugely relied on the services of Hazard.

The Blues cannot join the race to sign Jovic this summer. But, if they can convince him to remain at Eintracht Frankfurt for another year at the expense of relatively higher wages, it might prove to be an excellent piece of business. Easier said than done, though, with Real Madrid interested in the Serb.
