Arsenal have been urged to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell this summer by club legend Ian Wright.

The former forward believes that the English international would the ideal signing for the Gunners as they aim to achieve bigger things under Unai Emery next season.

In an interview with Mirror Football, Wright said: “[Arsenal should sign] someone like Ben Chilwell.

“He is the kind of left-back who is getting better with every game.

“He’s an England international now. Somebody that I’m sure is going to be sought after.”

Ben Chilwell: An ideal signing for the Gunners

Arsenal will be in desperate need of reinforcements in the full-back department this summer. In the left-back position, Sead Kolasinac hasn’t been convincing with his performances whilst struggling with frequent injury problems. As for Nacho Monreal, he is already nearing the final phase of his career.

Chilwell, in that regard, would be an ideal signing for the Premier League giants. The English international has been one of the rising stars in the recently concluded campaign, having registered four assists in 36 matches. His service from the left-back position has been crucial to Leicester City’s impressive season that saw them finish in the top half of the Premier League table.

As far as gameplay is concerned, Chilwell is capable of rotating possession at a quick-rate as well as providing extensive support in attack – something full-backs need to thrive in Arsenal’s attack-oriented philosophy.

Additionally, the 22-year-old likes to make forward runs and whip in crosses into the box.

Much like David Alaba, Chilwell can camp on the opposite end of the pitch, which becomes useful especially when probing a rigid deep-lying defensive unit.

Arsenal have been recently dealt with a massive blow in their pursuit of Ajax fullback Nicolas Tagliafico. The Argentine is reportedly set to stay another year at Ajax, making Chilwell a reasonable target for the Gunners.

That being said, the Leicester City fullback would at least cost Arsenal £50 million, which is a bit on the expensive side for a team that are expected to make do with a budget of around £40 million this summer, should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
