Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes might be out of their hands, but the Reds still have a good chance to lift the title and are currently top of the table, though they have played a game more than Manchester City.
This season has perhaps provided us with two teams who would have won the league on most seasons, such has been the high level of competitiveness between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola’s side.
Klopp’s Liverpool, who finished fourth in the league last season and reached the Champions League final, have lost just once in the league.
Here are three interesting facts about Liverpool’s season that will blow your mind.
#3 Liverpool’s 82 points the best Klopp has managed
He might have won two league titles with Borussia Dortmund, but Klopp’s current league season with Liverpool is by far his best as a manager in terms of points collected.
With five games to go, Liverpool have picked up 82 points already, which is one more than his Dortmund side managed in the 2011-12 season.
Now, the Bundesliga has 34 matchdays unlike the Premier League’s 38, so beating Dortmund’s tally in just 33 Premier League games is incredible, considering the top half of the league this season has been really competitive.
#2 Anfield, the home comfort
Liverpool’s away form this season has been pretty impressive as they have picked up 38 points from 17 games and top the away league table, but it’s their home form that has helped them progress this season.
The Reds are unbeaten at home this season, and have dropped points just twice at Anfield.
In fact, Liverpool have managed to turn Anfield into a cauldron under Klopp as they have not lost a league game at home since April 2017, almost two years ago, when Crystal Palace beat them.
To be exact, Liverpool are 37 games unbeaten at Anfield.
#1 Liverpool’s current tally would’ve been good enough to win the league seven times in the past
A tally of 82 points from 33 games is not bad at all, and it remains to be seen how close the Reds can get to Manchester City’s record points tally of 100, which they managed last season.
Liverpool’s current tally would have been good enough to win the league in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2011, and 2016.
The most notable one is, of course, the 1999 Premier League season when arch-rivals Manchester United won the treble.
