West Ham United beat Newcastle United 2-0 at the London Stadium to pick up all three points earlier on Saturday.

Declan Rice’s strike early in the game handed the Hammers the advantage, and hosts doubled the lead after Mark Noble converted from the penalty spot.

West Ham United player ratings vs Newcastle United

Lukasz Fabianski 7/10

The shot-stopper was hardly tested by the Magpies. He made a fantastic save in the dying minutes of the game to deny Salomon Rondon from scoring.

Ryan Fredericks 7/10

Fredericks struggled to impose himself the way he would have liked in the first half as was troubled by Miguel Almiron. However, he put in a strong performance after the break.

Issa Diop 8/10

The central defender imposed himself at the heart of the defence. He kept a close eye on Rondon and made two vital tackles.

Angelo Ogbonna 8/10

He forged a strong partnership at the back alongside Diop and showed a lot of grit and perseverance.

Aaron Cresswell 4/10

The left-back was far from convincing and couldn’t really cope with Ayoze Perez and Javier Manquillo. His injury forced him to go off near the half-hour mark.

Declan Rice 9/10

Apart from scoring the opening goal, Rice made six tackles. He shielded the defence meticulously and in the process of orchestrating the side together with his passes, he managed a pass completion rate of 83%.

Robert Snodgrass 8/10

Snodgrass assisted Rice and apart from that, he put in a tenacious display.

Mark Noble 7/10

He kept it nice and tidy in the middle of the park and converted the penalty. He played a key part in dictating the tempo of the game.

Manuel Lanzini 8/10

Lanzini provided creativity and was also pretty tenacious down the middle. Had two shots, but couldn’t make them count.

Felipe Anderson 6/10

Anderson could have taken better and quicker decisions to release the ball on many occasions. In all fairness, a lot more was expected from him in the final third. Was excellent with his dribbling, and finished the game with five dribbles, the most by anyone on the pitch.

Javier Hernandez 6.5/10

The Mexican striker appeared to be an isolated figure up top as there was a lack of quality deliveries to him.

Substitutions

Arthur Masuaku 7/10

He replaced Cresswell and brought the required energy down the left for the hosts. He made three tackles and was certainly very lively.

Marko Arnautovic 5/10

With around 20 minutes left on the clock, Arnautovic was brought on at the expense of Hernandez.

Pedro Obiang 5/10

He did his basics right after coming on for Noble late in the second half.
