Salah Flops While Van Dijk Delivers: Liverpool Player Ratings vs Everton

Liverpool FC failed to pull ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table as they dropped two points against Everton in a 0-0 draw.

Here are the Liverpool player ratings.

Alisson (7/10): He had very little to do with the Liverpool defensive line doing an amazing job. When called into action, however, he was efficient.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (8/10): He was a force at the back in this game, stopping each ball that came down the right-hand side, with 7 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 4 clearances, he was part of Liverpool’s excellent defensive front. TAA was also active up front with a few key passes and even a shot on target.

Joel Matip (7.5/10): Joel Matip made several key interceptions to retain control in the match for Liverpool, and his clearances helped Alisson in maintaining his clean sheet.

Virgil van Dijk (9/10): The star of the game in more ways than one, he was able to clear the ball almost every time it came anywhere close to the goal. With 13 clearances, 2 tackles, and 3 interceptions, Van Dijk continued his role of being the rock at the back of the Liverpool defence.

Andrew Robertson (7/10): Retrieving and advancing the ball when called upon, Robertson played a critical role as the link between the defence and the attack. He would have been one of the major reasons had Liverpool scored.

Jordan Henderson (6.5/10): Was energetic in midfield but his quality was not of the highest standard on the day. Several of his passes were under hit but he could not be faulted for lack of effort.

Henderson was able to intercept the ball several times himself as well, breaking up critical Everton attacks.

Fabinho (6/10): He did not do his job well enough in connecting the two ends of play, and missed several opportunities to put the ball in positions to help his team. One key pass from him, however, almost ended up at the back of the net.

Georgino Wijnaldum (6/10): He did not have a particularly good game delivering just one key pass and found it difficult to control the midfield tempo.

Mohamed Salah (5/10): Liverpool’s go-to man failed to turn up today, which ended up costing Liverpool the two points. While he made incisive runs in both halves of the game, he did not put the ball in the back of the net on two separate occasions when he had the opportunity.

Sadio Mane (5.5/10): Sadio Mane hardly managed to get the ball for even moments, and did not get a single shot away.

Divock Origi (5.5/10): Did not look comfortable on the left and hardly had any impact on the game. Will hope for a chance in a more conventional role next time.

Substitutes:

James Milner (7/10): Of all the players on the pitch, James Milner after coming on had the most to contribute offensively, with two shots. However, neither were on target. He managed an incisive run as well despite that leading to nothing. He came on for Georgino Wijnaldum in the 62nd minute.

Roberto Firmino (5.5/10): Roberto Firmino’s biggest contribution in the game was probably obliging a toddler for a picture while on the bench. On the pitch, he disappointed with one off-target shot after coming on for Divock Origi.

Adam Lallana (NA): Came on late for Sadio Mane and did not have the chance to make an impact.
