The Matchday 25 of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign offered us a lot of drama and excitement.
Despite some impressive attacking performances, defenders deserve a lot of credit as we witnessed only 21 goals being scored over the weekend.
And here are three best defensive performances we witnessed in Matchday 25.
Harry Maguire
Leicester lost 1-0 to Manchester United, but England international Harry Maguire put in an impressive display on Sunday.
Maguire was quite confident with his positioning, and his combination with Jonny Evans prevented United from doubling their lead as Leicester went in search for the equaliser.
The 25-year-old also played a key role in the build-up when threw the kitchen sink late in the second half.
Conor Coady
Wolves continued their excellent form with a sensational 3-1 win against Everton on Saturday, and much of it can be attributed to an inspirational performance from club captain Conor Coady.
The 25-year-old centre-back marshalled the Wolves backline and led his team by an example, barking out orders from the back.
Coady’s excellent positioning restricted Everton from finding space in the final third.
The former Liverpool man’s distribution was impressive, as he threaded a series of accurate long-balls, including the one which set Diogo Jota clean through in behind the Everton backline.
Coady attained an impressive pass success rate of 83% – more than any other player in the team, thus making him the most effective defender for Wolves in their away win.
Sol Bamba
Cardiff City paid respect to Emiliano Sala by turning in an inspired performance to beat Bournemouth 2-0 at home.
While the Bluebirds showed excellent zest going forward, it was the defensive combination of Sol Bamba and Bruno Manga that kept the Cherries at bay.
Bamba, in particular, showed incredible commitment and tenacity in the game and it was his temerity that prevented the likes of Josh King and Dominic Solanke from making an impact.
Bamba made three challenges and seven interceptions – more than any player in the game.
In addition, the veteran centre-back won three aerial duels and made six clearances, all of which contributed to a well-deserved clean sheet for the hosts.
