Liverpool will host Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League in what promises to be a thrilling game.

When the tie was announced, many fancied Liverpool, but circumstances have changed as the Reds aren’t at their strongest and haven’t been all that consistent in 2019 which has seen Manchester City close the gap at the top of the table.

Bayern, on the other hand, have bounced back with three wins in a row following their 3-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in early February to close the gap on Borussia Dortmund to three points.

Niko Kovac’s side haven’t been defensively sound, however, having conceded in each of their last six games in all competitions.

Bayern’s performances have been surprisingly insipid this season, but they are still in contention to win a treble, which just goes to show how much quality they have.

Liverpool vs Bayern Munich – Team News

The hosts are likely to be without Dejan Lovren, and with Virgil van Dijk suspended, we might see Fabinho start alongside Joe Matip at the heart of the defence.

Roberto Firmino’s availability will be assessed ahead of the game after missing Monday’s training session with a virus.

If Firmino fails to make it in time, Mohamed Salah might feature up top and Xherdan Shaqiri might get the nod to play on the right after shaking off an abdominal injury.

Bayern Munich might be without key defender Jerome Boateng as well, and we could see the duo of Nicklas Sule and Mats Hummels at the back.

The Bavarians too have a player suspended for the tie as Thomas Muller has been banned. Arjen Robben and Corentin Tolisso are unavailable.

The Bayern fans will hope Kingsley Coman makes fit for selection as the Frenchman has been a key player for the side of late. Franck Ribery has travelled, and might start if Kovac feels it’d be too be a risk to play Coman.
