Leicester City to spend £40m on Premier League goal-getter: Just what Rodgers needs

Leicester City sacked Claude Puel to bring in Brendan Rodgers, and are ready to back the Ulsterman with the money to sign Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson.

The former Celtic boss is keen to revamp Leicester’s attack, and is keeping close tabs on Wilson.

According to the Sun, Wilson could cost up to £40m, and Leicester are likely to face competition from West Ham United and Chelsea who are also interested in the 27-year old.

Callum Wilson: Profile

After emerging through the youth ranks of Coventry City, Wilson represented their senior side and also mustered loan spells with Kettering Town and Tamworth.

Wilson was then signed by Bournemouth in the summer of 2014, and has been one of their best players ever since, and helped them gain promotion to the top flight.

The 27-year-old is now an established player in English top flight. In 21 league appearances so far, he has managed 10 goals and five assists.

Wilson’s impressive performances under Eddie Howe led to an international call up with England last year, and he managed to find the back of the net to also become the first Bournemouth player to score for England.

Why Wilson would be a good addition to Leicester City

Jamie Vardy has been Leicester City’s first choice forward in recent seasons. However, his powers are on the wane and the club need a long-term solution.

While Kelechi Iheanacho is in his learning years, Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki has flattered to deceive and is out of contract in the summer.

In such a situation, signing a proven striker like Wilson, who is 27 and is at the peak of his powers, seems like the most prudent thing to do.

Wilson is agile, and is strong enough to hold the ball well up front. His intelligent movement is tough to read, and he backs that with clinical finishing when found inside the box.

The 27-year old also links-up well with his teammates, and has the ability to not only score goals regularly but to also create chances for his side as he has managed at least one key pass a game this season.

Wilson is used to the Premier League, and considering both Howe and Rodgers have similar attacking styles, he is unlikely to find it hard to acclimatise.
