Adrien Rabiot is looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain after being ousted of the squad by boss Thomas Tuchel, and Arsenal are hot on the Frenchman’s heels, it has been claimed.
According to the Mirror, Unai Emery has informed Arsenal about his intention to sign the 23-year old, and his familiarity with the player might help in the pursuit as well.
Rabiot is currently training with the PSG Under-23 squad and it doesn’t look like the Parisians will need him considering they signed Leandro Paredes in the January transfer window.
Why Rabiot Is A Good Fit For Emery’s System At Arsenal
Arsenal started their campaign under the former PSG manager pretty well, but they have struggled in recent times.
One of the major reasons behind their problems has been the inconsistent performances of their midfielders, who have not been able to be consistent enough. Of late, their creative output has reduced, which is another problem.
While Granit Xhaka has been on and off the pitch with injury problems, Aaron Ramsey has fallen down the pecking order under the tutelage of Emery and will leave in the summer.
While Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira have done well in midfield, they are good central midfielders and don’t break forward often enough, which leaves the wingers and forwards with too much to do on their own.
Rabiot has often started in central midfield, but unlike Torreira, Xhaka, and Guendouzi, the PSG midfielder often likes to break forward and is good with the ball at his feet.
With a trick or two up his sleeve, and the ability to pick out a teammate in the attacking half, Rabiot would be the ideal addition to the Arsenal midfield.
Because Rabiot is a good reader of the game an can put in a foot in when needed, his addition would also add more balance to the team.
Emery worked with the French ace during his tenure as the PSG boss, and knows how to use the 23-year old, so the Gunners should do everything to sign the player and help Emery build a squad that would help him implement his style.
Considering Rabiot’s contract expires in the summer, all Arsenal need to do is to convince the player to join them. A lot will depend on the wages, though.
