According to Mirror, Arsenal are willing to cash in on former Southampton defender Calum Chambers in the summer.
Chambers, who is currently on loan at Fulham till the end of the season, has done really well at Craven Cottage and should attract a lot of suitors in the summer.
And in this article, we will talk about three clubs who should make a move for this versatile defender when the transfer window opens in July.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace’s lack of depth in their team has been well documented, with the Eagles appearing short of options in all three departments this season.
In defence, the likes of Scott Dann, Martin Kelly and Jairo Riedewald have struggled with frequent injuries. Thus, the duo of James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho are the only two reliable options for Palace at the moment.
Although these two players have done well for the most part, coach Roy Hodgson could certainly use some defensive reinforcements in the summer.
Chambers, in that regard, would be an ideal fit as he can not only provide Hodgson with additional options in defence but also in the holding midfield position, where the team has appeared overly reliant on the services of Luka Milivojevic.
Everton
Another club who could be benefitted by the arrival of Chambers is Everton. The Toffees have shown signs of improvement under Marco Silva but will be needing substantial reinforcements in the summer, especially in the defensive department.
Veteran defender Phil Jagielka is already in the final phase of career while Everton are still yet to make any move in their pursuit of Kurt Zouma, whose loan spell at the club will expire at the end of the campaign.
The addition of Chambers, therefore, would offer Silva with an additional option in defence.
But most importantly, the Portuguese mastermind could also utilize the 24-year-old in the holding midfield role, which will make sense, if we consider the fact that Idrissa Gueye has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park while Morgan Schneiderlin has failed to make himself a first-team regular under Silva. On top of that Andre Gomes has also been decent but yet another loan move means his future will also be up in the air in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur, despite boasting a remarkably balanced squad, have had their injury troubles this season, particularly in the midfield department.
Their main holding midfielder in Eric Dier has had a topsy-turvy campaign, which has been partly marred by injuries as well. In fact, the England international has featured in just over 1,100 minutes of league action so far.
And in his absence, coach Mauricio Pochettino has had to rely on the services of either Moussa Sissoko or the inexperienced Harry Winks.
Chambers, in that regard, could be a smart signing from Tottenham’s perspective as the 24-year-old can provide more solidity in the midfield whilst offering Pochettino with an additional option in defence amid speculations linking Toby Alderweireld to a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer.
