Barreca in the Squad: Predicted 5-4-1 Newcastle United Lineup vs Tottenham

After a morale-boosting win against Manchester City on Tuesday, Newcastle United travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies were a busy team on deadline day and finally broke their transfer record to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United. Rafa Benitez’s side also signed Antonio Barreca on loan from Monaco.

Newcastle will hope to use the feel-good factor in the last few days when they take on Tottenham, knowing well that the Lilywhites aren’t at their strongest with Harry Kane and Dele Alli out injured.

Benitez’s side showed good character to bounce back against Manchester City despite going behind inside the opening 30 seconds, and if they show the same spirit against Spurs, we might have a good game on our hands.

Newcastle United Team News

It would be a surprise if the new signings make the Newcastle United lineup come Saturday even though the Magpies have a lot of injury concerns at the moment. In fact, Almiron is yet to get his visa and will not be able to feature. Barreca, however, might get a few minutes off the bench at best.

Ki Sung-yueng, Joselu, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, and Yoshinori Muto are not available for selection, while the likes of Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame are doubtful.

Predicted Newcastle United Lineup

Defence

The trio of Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles are expected to start at the heart of the defence.

If Dummett isn’t available, Ritchie might once again start in the left wing-back position for the Magpies. DeAndre Yedlin is expected to start on the right.

Midfield

It’s very likely we’ll once again see Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff in central midfield considering the injuries Newcastle have at the moment. The two put in a good shift against Manchester City and more of the same will be expected when they take on Tottenham.

Attack

Christian Atsu and Kenedy could be given the nod to start on the wide areas. Kenedy is fresh having featured for just three minutes against Spurs.

Salomon Rondon will lead the line once again and he’ll hope to test the Spurs backline after troubling Manchester City a few days ago.

Rondon

Kenedy – Longstaff – Hayden – Atsu

Ritchie – Lejeune – Lascelles – Schar – Yedlin
