Lacazette Gets 2: Arsenal Players Rated and Slated In Their Shock Loss To BATE Borisov

Arsenal suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat at the hands of Belarusian outfit BATE Borisov at the Borisov Arena earlier today in the first leg of their Round of 32 fixture in the Europa League.

Stanislaw Dragun grabbed the lead for the home side moments before the interval after he guided a smart header over Petr Cech and his goal eventually proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Here are our Arsenal player ratings from their sluggish and inept display earlier today.

Petr Cech 5/10

The custodian could have denied Dragun from finding the back of the net in the first half had he reacted quicker. Otherwise, he was hardly tested.

Nacho Monreal 5/10

Monreal was decent defensively and made a few surging runs to test Alexei Rios.

Laurent Koscielny 6/10

The Frenchman dealt well with the likes of Maksim Skavysh, Nemanja Milic and Ihar Stasevich in the first period and then was composed at the back when his side got forward to attack.

Shkodran Mustafi 5/10

There were some moments of miscalculation from Mustafi as usual but he was relatively solid at the back.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles 5/10

The right-back was adventurous but he lacked the cutting edge. After a good display against Huddersfield, he failed to reach similar heights today.

Matteo Guendouzi 4/10

He toiled all over the pitch but grew frustrated in the second half due to the lack of final output. A lot more was expected from him in terms of passing and creativity.

Granit Xhaka 5/10

Xhaka failed to boss the midfield the way he would have liked. However, he distributed the ball well and tried his best to create chances.

Sead Kolasinac 6/10

His attacking endeavours were appealing to watch. He bombarded down the left and did create a couple of decent goal scoring chances at least.

Alex Iwobi 4/10

Just like Guendouzi, Iwobi showcased immense work-ethic but he struggled to make his presence felt in the final third.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 4/10

The former Manchester United attacker had a forgettable evening as he was wasteful in possession. He hardly caused any problems for Aleksandar Filipovic down the right.

Alexandre Lacazette 2/10

His first touch was terrible on the night and he failed to hold the ball in the final third. Besides, he couldn’t link up with Iwobi or Mkhitaryan and cut a frustrated figure on the pitch. Throwing his elbow at Filipovic and receiving his marching orders summed up his evening.

Substitutions

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 3/10

The Gabon international was hardly visible on the pitch after coming on for Maitland-Niles in the second half.

Lucas Torreira 5/10

He injected some steel in the midfield after he was brought on for the final twenty minutes.

Denis Suarez 3/10

The Barcelona loanee showed some spark initially but that didn’t last long.
