Alonso gets 2, Hazard gets 6 | Chelsea player ratings vs Manchester City

Marcos Alonso

Chelsea suffered their heaviest defeat in all competitions since 1991 after slumping to a 6-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Blues had no answer to Manchester City’s relentless pressure and were four goals down at half time.

The second half saw Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling add two more to hand Maurizio Sarri the worst defeat of his career.

Here are the Chelsea player ratings:

Kepa Arrizabalaga (4/10): May have done a little better in trying to keep out Ilkay Gundogan’s deflected shot. A terrible evening for the Spaniard, but was hardly helped by his defence.

Cesar Azpilicueta (4/10): Struggled to contain the menacing runs of Raheem Sterling, who bamboozled the Chelsea defender till the final whistle.

Antonio Rudiger (5/10): While Rudiger did excel in the physical duels, the German international looked out of pace while dealing with the Manchester City attack for large parts of the game.

David Luiz (6/10): Was perhaps unlucky not to receive adequate defensive support from his teammates but it was a shambolic performance from the Brazilian nonetheless as he struggled to marshall the Chelsea backline. Tried to distribute the ball and evade the Man City press with his long diagonals.

Marcos Alonso (2/10): Guilty for moving out of position and leaving Bernardo Silva clear through. The Spaniard was just not solid enough and was often caught out of position too often.

N’Golo Kante (5/10): Made one or two important interceptions but overall, it was a forgetful evening for the Frenchman, who struggled to break City’s rhythm in midfield.

Jorginho (5/10): With Chelsea attaining only 44% of the possession, Jorginho had very little to do aside from making one or two challenges in midfield. The Italian was dominated by the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Gundogan.

Ross Barkley (2/10): An awful header in the first half, which gifted Sergio Aguero his second of the evening. The former Everton midfielder also provided very little going forward and was rightfully subbed off early in the second half.

Pedro (4/10): Had the best opportunity of the evening for Chelsea but squandered it in the first half. The former Barcelona star was largely isolated before making way for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the second half.

Gonzalo Higuain (5.5/10): After an anonymous first-half, Higuain looked a little bit lively in the second half. The Argentine’s combination with Eden Hazard was particularly impressive, considering he didn’t have much service.

Eden Hazard (6/10): By far the most active Chelsea attacker this evening, Hazard tried to take on the entire Man City defence on his own, largely due to lack of support from his teammates in the final third.

Substitutes

Mateo Kovacic (5/10): Replaced Barkley in the 52nd minute but struggled to make any notable impact.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (5/10): Failed to provide any creativity going forward after replacing Pedro in the 65th minute.

Emerson (NA): His tame effort from a free-kick failed to test goalkeeper Ederson, right at the dying embers of the game.
