Wood and Barnes in Attack: Predicted 4-4-2 Burnley Lineup vs Manchester United

predicted Burnley lineup

Burnley are scheduled to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday in their next Premier League clash.

The Clarets were hammered 5-0 by Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and could be in for another tough game come Tuesday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side will aim to grab their ninth win on the trot across all competitions when they face Sean Dyche’s men.

Considering Manchester United’s more attacking approach, Dyche’s side will have to be well-drilled at the back.

Burnley Team News

Robbie Brady is doubtful for the upcoming fixture after he picked up a groin injury during his side’s battering at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Aaron Lennon and Jonathan Walters remain sidelined with their long-term injuries, but Johann Berg Gudmundsson could return to the bench.

Predicted Burnley Lineup

Defence

Tom Heaton is expected to keep his place between the sticks. He is likely to have a busy outing against a high-flying Manchester United side, and will have to be at the top of his game.

Dyche could stick to a four-man backline comprising of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski in the central defence. The duo have forged a decent partnership at the back.

While Charlie Taylor is likely to keep his place at the left-back, Phil Bardsley could start in the right-back role. The full-backs have to get forward on a regular basis to keep Solskjaer’s defenders under pressure.

Midfield

Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood could start in the middle of the park to try and upset the likes of Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, who are in fine form at the moment.

Jeff Hendrick might start on the right flank, while Dwight McNeil might operate on the left. McNeil has scored one goal and registered two assists in six league appearances, and is improving with every passing game.

Attack

Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes are likely to start up top to test the United backline that has improved in recent weeks.

Barnes and Wood have struggled to score goals consistently this season, but a good game against the Red Devils could be a confidence booster for the remainder of the season.
