Manchester United picked up their fifth Premier League win in a row at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur earlier today and it was a major blow to Spurs’ title aspirations.
Playing at home, Spurs were slight favourites going into the game but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team had a good game plan to stifle the Spurs attack and hit them on the break.
The first half was pretty even as both David De Gea and Hugo Lloris were called into action several times, but United were more defensive in the second half as they protected their lead after Marcus Rashford took his chance well to put them ahead just before half time.
Spurs created quite a few openings, but struggled to beat De Gea who had another inspiring outing, often making difficult saves with his feet to keep the Spurs attackers at bay.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side need to take a lot of the blame for losing their concentration just before half time as they were pierced by a brilliant Paul Pogba pass to Rashford.
The forwards were also not on their game as some of the efforts were barely shots on target.
The defeat leaves the north London outfit nine points behind league leaders Liverpool and it’s a gap that seems too much even though there are 16 games still to be played.
Spurs have become rather infamous for bottling it of late and against a team in form like Manchester United, it was always going to be hard after going behind.
Here are some of the best Tweets from the game as the defeat pleased Tottenham’s rivals.
