Trippier disappoints, Winks impresses: Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings vs Manchester United

eric lamela

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium yesterday.

Marcus Rashford scored to give his team the lead just before the interval, and his goal proved to be the difference between the two sides despite a Spurs onslaught in the second half.

Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris 7/10

The French custodian was spot on to deny Rashford and Anthony Martial in the early stages of the game. Rashford’s goal after Pogba’s wonder pass was clinical and it would have taken a special save to deny the Englishman.

Ben Davies 6/10

He wasn’t prolific while going forward but was rock-solid in his defensive duties. He prevented Romelu Lukaku from scoring for the Red Devils late in the game.

Jan Vertonghen 6/10

The Belgian centre-back was troubled by the pace of Rashford and needs time to get back to his best form.

Toby Alderweireld 7/10

He was solid at the back, and it was David De Gea’s fantastic save which denied him from finding the back of the net in the second half.

Kieran Trippier 4/10

Trippier gave away the ball way too easily at times, and he struggled to make an impact throughout the game. He struggled to get forward and was mostly caught in his own half. He lost the ball in the build-up to the goal as well. Hasn’t looked at his best in recent times.

Harry Winks 8/10

Arguably the stand-out performer for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Winks played the role of an anchorman quite well and strung the midfield and attack together superbly.

Christian Eriksen 6/10

Eriksen created chances for Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son, but both of them failed to convert. Was constantly at the United defence in the second half but without any luck.

Moussa Sissoko 6/10

He imposed his strong physical presence in the middle of the park but had to leave for an early shower after pulling his muscle during a sprint.

Dele Alli 7/10

Alli was denied twice by De Gea but he should have done better with the first one. Impressive in the build-up play though.

Harry Kane 7/10

The English international had at least three good chances but like his teammates, came up against an inspired De Gea. Hobbled off the pitch after the 90 minutes and faces an anxious wait on the prognosis.

Heung-Min Son 6/10

Son showcased immense work-rate but just like Kane, he struggled to come up with the end product. He was denied space by the Manchester United defenders to work with, and could not exert the same amount of influence he usually does.

Substitutes

Erik Lamela 6/10

The Argentine replaced Sissoko moments before the first half. He introduced urgency in the attack but failed to come up with the moment of magic which was needed yesterday.

Fernando Llorente 6/10

He replaced Winks late in the second half and came very close to scoring.
