Stoke City eyeing a transfer swoop for Premier League forward: Just what they need

Stoke City have made their move to sign Burnley striker Sam Vokes for £9 million, it has been reported.

Nathan Jones took over from the Gary Rowett a few weeks ago, and it looks like strengthening the Stoke attack is on his agenda in the coming days.

According to Dailymail, Stoke are keen on signing Sam Vokes, who has fallen below the pecking order at Burnley.

Stoke City have had an underwhelming campaign in the Championship so far this season, and are fifteenth in the standings, having collected 38 points from 29 games.

Intriguingly, they sit just eight points behind sixth-placed Derby County and with 17 games still left to play, there is still enough time to get into the playoff spots.

Sam Vokes: Profile

Vokes is one of the most experienced players in English football; he started his youth career with Bournemouth and then went on to represent their senior side.

A move to Wolves followed and while he was on their books, he was shipped out on loan to a number of sides including Leeds United and Burnley.

In the summer of 2012, Vokes made a permanent switch to Turf Moor and played an instrumental role in helping Burnley win promotion to the Premier League.

Vokes has featured 61 times for the Wales national team as well. The forward has scored 110 career goals for club and country.

Vokes to Stoke – A wise move by the club

Vokes has been on the fringes at Burnley this season as Sean Dyche has handed him merely 10 starts in the league.

The 29-year-old is a clinical goal scorer and is someone who has proven himself in Championship football.

With his ability to hold the ball well in the final third, Vokes brings his teammates into play, and he would be an asset for making the most out of set-pieces as too because he is a pretty tough player to deal with during aerial duels.

Vokes has won an incredible 6.3 aerial duels in the Premier League on an average and has the ability to almost bully defenders at times.

Peter Crouch, Saido Berahino and Benik Afobe have flattered to deceive this season and by signing Vokes, Jones would get something different.

Vokes has scored three times in the Premier League so far this season, but with more regular playing time at Stoke, he might have more goals under his name.
