Puel Out? Leicester City identify replacement for Frenchman and he'd be a good fit 1

Leicester City are looking to get hold of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should they decide to sack Claude Puel, it has been claimed by the Sun.

Puel’s side are set to face high-flying Wolves at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday, and a defeat could be the final nail in the coffin.

The Frenchman’s defensive approach has failed to generate enough excitement among the fans, and advisors close to Aiyawatt Srivaddhanapraha have indicated that Rodgers could be Puel’s successor.

The reason for Puel’s anticipated exit

Under the tutelage of Puel, Leicester City have been criticised for playing a negative and unattractive brand of football, and they have been inconsistent at the same time.

Leicester picked up wins against Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton during the festive period which papered the cracks that had started to appear earlier in the season, and their weaknesses have resurfaced lately.

The former Premier League champions were knocked up of the FA Cup by League Two outfit Newport County, before suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of relegation battlers Southampton in the league.

Puel is under tremendous pressure at the moment as the fans are getting impatient with him though he has done a decent job after taking over the charge from Craig Shakespeare back in October 2017.

Leicester City are eighth in the league standings after having collected 31 points from 22 outings so far.

Why Rodgers would be a good fit

Rodgers has done a commendable job north of the border with Scottish giants Celtic after replacing Ronny Deila in 2016.

The Ulsterman has led the Hoops to double-treble and his side are currently top of the Premiership table, and won the Scottish League Cup in December.

Rodgers has a much more attack-minded approach, and he is a kind of manager who has the calibre to derive the best out of the talented pool of players at Leicester City.

Liverpool went close to winning the league under Rodgers but ultimately fell short due to their defensive frailty.

In his spell with Celtic, Rodgers has managed in the Champions League and the experience has made him a better manager as he guided the Hoops to the knockout stages of the Europa League in December.

Lest we forget, Rodgers guided Swansea City to the Premier League not so long ago and they played some brilliant attacking football. Often a target of the internet meme-boys, Rodgers is a good manager and would be a smart acquisition by Leicester City.
