Chelsea kept their slim chances of challenging for the title alive with a hard-fought win against Newcastle United. On a day when Arsenal suffered a shock defeat and Liverpool bounced back after a difficult 10 days, Sarri would have wanted a win at the very least. With these 3 points, they have now strengthened their position in the Top 4 and now the pressure is on Tottenham Hotspur to come up with a positive result against high-flying Manchester United tomorrow.
Coming to the match, two under fire wingers joined hands to show their value with the open transfer window raising doubts over their future at the club in the build-up to the game. Pedro opened the scoring before Ciaran Clarke levelled things before the break.
But it was Willian who was singled out for criticism by Sarri recently who popped up with the winning goal in the 58th minute.
Chelsea were the dominant side with six shots on target to Newcastle’s two but were made to work reasonably hard by a resolute Magpies side.
Next up is a trip to the Emirates for the Blues and another opportunity to further diminish Arsenal’s hopes of a Top 4 finish.
