Chelsea plot a move for prolific Portuguese striker: Just what Sarri needs 1

Premier League giants Chelsea are plotting a move for Andre Silva this January, according to a report by The Sun.

However, the Milan striker, currently on loan to Sevilla, will not be available unless Chelsea offer Alvaro Morata on loan to the Spanish outfit, which, in turn, will pave the way for Silva to return to Milan.

Head coach Maurizio Sarri is already hoping that the Portuguese forward would solve his side’s attacking crisis and thus, a move could be plausible.

Andre Silva: How will he fit in at Chelsea?

Silva moved to Milan back in 2017 but following a difficult debut campaign in the Serie A, the Portuguese international was loaned to Sevilla last summer. And since then, he has become one of the best performing attackers in La Liga, bagging eight goals in just 17 matches.

To that end, Silva could be an excellent addition to Chelsea, largely thanks to his impressive goalscoring prowess that will surely revamp the Blues attack.

However, Silva’s game is not only limited to just placing the ball in the back of the net, as the Portuguese, unlike a typical number nine, is a modern striker, whose main job is to facilitate the opposition backline with clever runs and sharp movements.

Indeed, the 23-year-old often tends to drift into wider areas, either to drag the defender out of position or to provide crosses, should the coach resort to playing an extra forward that has been quite prevalent with Sevilla this season.

This is clearly indicated by the fact that the Portuguese international has amassed 1.4 key passes per game this season. He has had a decent number of attempts as well, averaging 2.4 shots per game, 1.6 of which have come inside the penalty area.

As for Sarri, he could utilize Andre Silva in a similar role if we take into account the uncertainty regarding Eden Hazard’s future at the club.

The Italian mastermind will find it easier to accommodate Silva into his formation, although he may have to sign another forward since the 23-year-old often struggles in leading the line all by himself.

The former Napoli boss is already contemplating a move for Edinson Cavani, who could prove to be an excellent partner for Silva as Chelsea brace themselves for possibly a significant squad overhaul.

Willian and Pedro have often struggled with consistency and add to it the woeful scoring form of Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata, it seems quite likely that Maurizio Sarri might look for some fresh faces in the near future as he looks to defy the managerial trend and build a dynasty at Stamford Bridge.
