3 reasons why Tottenham Hotspur should sign this French midfield star

Tottenham Hotspur are in definite need of a new central midfielder right now, especially after the departure of Mousa Dembele.

Although Spurs also hoping to secure the services of a new forward following Harry Kane’s injury, the lack of resources in the midfield could force the Lilywhites to target a new central midfielder.

Adrien Rabiot, for one, has been linked with a move to north London and with the Frenchman set to leave PSG, here are three reasons why Spurs should go all out to sign him.

#3 He could add an extra dimension to Tottenham’s midfield

Rabiot is known for his efficient passing and smart positioning – both of which play a key role in Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical philosophy at Tottenham.

The Frenchman often tends to break forward and push the opposition with his marauding runs from midfield and can also provide the necessary defensive cover. This could be ideal for Tottenham, who have appeared over-reliant on the services of Eric Dier when it comes to providing security for the backline.

Rabiot, therefore, could provide additional support to Dier off the ball and push the opposition back with his driving runs forward, ultimately adding an extra dimension to Tottenham’s midfield department.

#2 An ideal replacement for Mousa Dembele

After being a subject of major transfer speculation over the past few months, Dembele has finally moved to Guangzhou Evergrande in a £11 million deal.

The Belgian international played a key role in Pochettino’s midfield setup, thanks to his efficient passing and excellent ball-carrying ability that eased Tottenham’s transition from defence to offence.

Rabiot, in that regard, might be the ideal replacement for the 31-year-old midfielder.

Much like Dembele, the PSG midfielder excels in recycling possession and is a tough tackler in midfield, having averaged 2.5 tackles per game this season.

#1 A long-term investment

At the age of 23, Rabiot certainly has time on his side and it can, thus, be safely be assumed that the Frenchman would be a long-term signing.

Rabiot also has good experience at the highest level of football, having made a whopping 227 competitive appearances for PSG.

And considering Pochettino’s expertise when it comes to developing young players, Rabiot is almost destined to succeed at Tottenham.
