Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for Marseille star: SWOT analysis

tottenham hotspur

According to Europe Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the services of Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

The 24-year-old has been one of the most consistent midfielders in the French Ligue 1 for the past couple of seasons and has been consistent in the current campaign as well.

However, a January exit could be a possibility for Sanson as Tottenham look to shore up their midfield.

But what can Sanson bring add to the Lilywhites? Here is SWOT report of this highly talented Marseille midfielder.

Strengths

Sanson is a technically astute central midfielder. He excels in ball distribution and has excellent composure in the middle of the park.

The 24-year old’s has been deployed in a deeper midfield role and in an advanced midfield role and has done well in both positions which shows his versatility. Sanson has averaged over 1.5 interceptions per game this season, so he can play in a deeper role.

The Frenchman is a tenacious midfielder, who can press the opposition midfield and he likes to put a foot in as well, averaged almost 2.3 tackles per game.

Weaknesses

The 24-year-old lacks the aerial superiority, which has become almost a necessary trait for any Premier League midfielder these days.

Although Sanson loves to move forward, his overall offensive contribution is largely ineffective, with the midfielder often squandering key attacking moves due to his bad decision making in the final third.

Opportunities

Sanson would be a decent signing for Tottenham, who are ideally looking for midfield reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Frenchman could potentially be the successor for Mousa Dembele and the fact that he has a similar style of play when compared to Dembele, Sanson, in many aspects, is actually a tailor-made replacement for the Belgian international.

Threats

There aren’t many significant downsides to Sanson’s potential move to Spurs other than the aforementioned fact that the Frenchman struggles with his decision making in the final third whilst having a lack of aerial prowess.

As for the player, however, he certainly needs to be patient since it’s unlikely that he’ll instantly become an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s setup after moving in. But overall, it’s certainly an attractive move for both parties.
