Liverpool Player Ratings vs Manchester United: Fabinho Shines

Liverpool once again moved to the top of the table after registering an impressive 3-1 win over arch-rivals Manchester United at home.

The Reds put in a domineering performance over the Red Devils as a goal from Sadio Mane and a second-half brace from Xherdan Shaqiri helped them continue their winning streak.

Here are the Liverpool rated and slated from their win over United.

Alisson (6/10): A huge error around the half-hour mark allowed Manchester United to crawl back into the game. However, he was somewhat unlucky as the ball deflected off his knee to head straight into the path of Jesse Lingard. Was largely untested afterwards.

Nathaniel Clyne (7/10): Couldn’t make a massive impact from the right-hand side and at times when he did, his final product often let him down. His personal duel with Ashley Young was definitely intriguing to watch. Can’t expect more from someone who was making his first start of the league.

Dejan Lovren (8/10): Kept things in tip-top shape with his imposing presence at the back. Won four aerial duels and was always a threat from set-pieces, notably attempting three shots, including a close-range miss in the first half.

Virgil Van Dijk (8/10): A decent performance from the Dutch international, who wasn’t as influential as we would normally expect. But, he did well to keep check of the United attackers while playing a key role in Liverpool’s build-up play from the back.

Andrew Robertson (8/10): He got into several good positions and was very obedient in terms of his defensive play, notably making a key headed interception in the second half.

Sadio Mane (8.5/10): One of the star performers of the evening, Mane stole the show with some excellent wing-play from the left-hand channel, causing some serious trouble to the United defence. Also scored the all-important opener.

Georginio Wijnaldum (8/10): Ran rings around the United midfield thanks to some clever play and excellent link-up play in the middle. His pressing was also top notch as it minimised the influence of players like Herrera and Matic.

Fabinho (9/10): By far the best performer in this game, Fabinho controlled the midfield throughout the course of the game. The Brazilian showed excellent composure, quality and spirit to dominate the United midfield while his excellent ball to Sadio Mane in the first-half led to Liverpool’s opener.

He also kept his mark on proceedings in the second half and the match could have ended differently had it not been for him.

Naby Keita (7.5/10): Couldn’t showcase his true talents operating from an unnatural wide position as he was dispossessed thrice. But, some good pressing and clever passes kept the United midfield occupied.

Roberto Firmino (8.5/10): It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Firmino so far, but the Brazilian played a key role in this game. Operating as the number nine, the former Hoffenheim star tracked back when necessary but most importantly, he found a way to breach the United defence with some excellent footwork and neat passes. Was unlucky not to score a goal late in the second half.

Mohamed Salah (8/10): United were well aware of the threat Salah possesses and thus, the Egyptian was under close watch this evening. However, he still managed to create a few chances for his team and use his dynamic movements to unsettle the United backline.

Substitutes

Xherdan Shaqiri (9/10): Once again made an impact after coming on in the second half as the Swiss international made full use of the two opportunities he received. His first goal, in particular, was crucial as it restored Liverpool’s lead before doubling his tally seven minutes later.

Jordan Henderson (NA): Replaced Naby Keita late in the game to provide more solidity to the Liverpool midfield.
