It has been claimed by ESPN that Liverpool are looking to make a move for Borussia Dortmund attacker Christian Pulisic.
The Reds have made a good start to the Premier League but the addition of more attacking reinforcements could help the club compete with Manchester City on a more even keel.
We take a look at the pros and cons for Liverpool moving in for Pulisic.
Pros
Pulisic is one of Europe’s most talented young footballers, having managed great success at a young age. As a matter of fact, he has notched over 100 appearances for Dortmund, which is no mean feat for a 20-year-old.
The American is an old-fashioned winger who loves to drift past defenders and get to the byline in order to provide a dangerous ball into the box.
He also has quick feet, which enable him to wriggle through tight spaces – a trait which could be ideal for Liverpool’s free-flowing attack as they often come up against defences that deploy a low block.
Unlike most of the wingers these days, Pulisic is direct and his lucid gameplay in the final third makes him an appealing target for Liverpool side.
Liverpool lack the attacking depth in the side despite boasting a strong first team. Thus, Pulisic’s addition to the club will offer Klopp with more options and he could turn out to be more than just a squad player.
Cons
On the flip side, Pulisic has struggled with a lack of consistency in the past 12 months or so. The American international has even failed to make himself a regular fixture under Lucien Favre this campaign, partly due to his lack of temperament in the final third.
His failures against teams like Freiburg and Mainz in the Bundesliga have been well documented as the sides have a more physical approach.
One of the things that stick the most, however, is his hefty price-tag. Dortmund will not be willing to let go of their prized asset for a cheap, given how much success Pulisic has had at such a young age.
Therefore, the Reds will likely have to spend a fortune to attain his services, which, in turn, could transform into a big gamble.
