The Best And The Worst Manchester City Players Rated Against Manchester United

Manchester City had a few worrying moments in the second half but emerged comfortable 3-1 winners otherwise in the Manchester derby to top the Premier League table before the international break.

Here are the Manchester City player ratings.

Ederson (7.5/10): A solid performance from Ederson, who wasn’t forced to make any big saves with Manchester United amassing only one shot on goal, which, in turn, was the penalty in the second half. His long-passes were a delight to watch as it exposed the United defence on a couple of occasions.

He did, however, concede the penalty which led to United’s only goal of the evening.

Kyle Walker (8/10): A responsible performance from Walker, who was not only solid in defence but also useful in attack as he provided adequate support to the attackers up front.

John Stones (8/10): While Stones’ link-up play was excellent, it was his dogged defending which caught the eye of the audiences. He made a few crucial blocks to keep out the United attack.

Aymeric Laporte (7.5/10): Another classy display from the former Athletic superstar, who was excellent in the build-up game. Although he did struggle to cope with the robust presence of Romelu Lukaku, at first, he slowly geared as time wore on.

Benjamin Mendy (7.5/10): Made one or two rash passes in an otherwise comprehensive display from the fullback. His attacking runs once again made the difference although fans would expect the Frenchman to increase his defensive output.

Bernardo Silva (8.5/10): A top performance from the Portuguese international, whose passes were crucial in destabilising the Manchester United defence. Serviced David Silva for City’s opener while racking up yet another assist by producing a beautiful ball in for Ilkay Gundogan inside the penalty area for the third.

Fernandinho (7/10): Looked wobbly at times but significantly better when compared to his United counterparts. But, he needs to be more resilient against stronger opponents(not trolling lmao).

David Silva (8.5/10): Ran the midfield show with some top-notch, some brilliant movements and some cheeky touches – all of which were crucial in ripping apart the Manchester United defence. His well-taken opener inside 12th minute worked as a catalyst in what followed, a comprehensive display from the home side.

Riyad Mahrez (7.5/10): Provided a spark going forward, thanks to some promising runs down the flank, which kept the United defenders at their toes.

Sergio Aguero (9.5/10): By far the best player this evening, it was an all-round display from Sergio Aguero, who not appeared lethal in front of goal but also linked up well with his teammates in the final third and was even untouchable, at times. No doubt he was upset after being hooked off in the 75th minute.

Raheem Sterling (8/10): Looked menacing whenever he got onto the ball and had a key role to play for City’s opener. Shifted into a central role following the substitution of Aguero in the final phase of the game.

Substitutes

Leroy Sane (7.5/10): Made a host of runs which kept the defenders occupied and also did pretty well to eat up time during the final phase of the game with some neat trickery on the flanks.

Ilkay Gundogan (8/10): Very responsible performance in midfield after replacing Sergio Aguero in the 75th minute. He was deeply involved in proceedings as City strolled through to an easy win at the end. Made full use of his opportunity to score a late goal to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Phil Foden (NA): Couple of deft touches to eat up seconds.
